Honoring our Past, Building our Future The Healing Continues… Drummers & Participants needed!! Pre-registration Appreciated!!! Calling all: Organizations, Sororities, Fraternities, Citizens, Churches, Politicians and Businesses to Join Us in showing Respect to the victims of the historical July 2nd 1917 riots, one of the worst race riots in the United States.
July 1st at 6:30 PM, Bldg D, SIU-EStL Center-Soul Food Soiree (chicken, fried fish, spaghetti, Mac&Cheese, greens & etc.), Thomas Gibson-guest speaker and view his film “Bloody Island” $25 donation Address: 601 James R. Thompson Dr.
July 2nd at 8 AM, Gather at City Hall for registration, enactments and processional to Eads Bridge where a wreath is dropped in honor of the victims. Address: 301 River Park Dr., formerly Broadway Ave. The processional is modeled after the 1917 New York "Negro Silent Parade", organized in part by WEB Du Bois in empathy with and to shed light on what was happening in East St. Louis in particular and other general injustices being faced in those days.
